I have no expectation of being Cured through aromatherapy. However, I perceive that some oils help with some some symptoms. If I’m wrong they generally smell good, so a small amount of money is all that is lost. Recipes also supposedly have a synagistic effect and so I’ve written up a few that I use below. You may also want to read this review and this list of essential oil properties.
I’ve collated and adapted recipes as I’m not an Aromatherapist. The recipes on this site assume that you are a non-pregnant, non-epileptic, non-asthmatic, adult human who has ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia/PoTS. If this is not you seek other advice before using these recipes.
It isn’t free but some of the oils are £1 on ebay and last a long time (use this search to find them). You don’t have to use every oil in the recipe. The first 5 oils I’d buy would be: grapefruit, rosemary, basil, clary sage and lavender (≅£7).
Method: store diluted in 2 or 3 tbsp of almond or sunflower oil and massage 1 tsp into neck, face, hands and chest every night; 2 drops neat on a tissue beside the bed; 3 drops on cotton wool on the radiator or in an oil burner.
Once you are sleeping well try one of the next 3 recipes in the morning:
Problem: Stress and/or Fatigue
Recipe: 12 grapefruit, 10 palma rosa, 8 thyme
Method: store diluted in 2 or 3 tbsp of almond or sunflower oil and massage 1 tsp into neck, face, hands and chest every morning; 3 drops on cotton wool on the radiator or in an oil burner.
Method: store neat, use 1 drop per 1tsp base oil and rub into soles of feet especially toe area (may feel hot), lower back, neck and behind ears; use 1 drop per 30ml water in cleaning spray; 2 drops on cotton wool on radiator
Method: store diluted in 2 or 3 tbsp of almond or sunflower oil or other base oil and massage arms and legs every morning
Note: I’ve created this recipe myself after reading about the likely properties of these oils. I have no idea if it works but it smells good! Rose geranium and cypress are meant to be vasoconstrictor and the others good for hypotension. It’s also a bit like the thieves recipe so may help prevent infections.
Recipe: 2 vetiver, 4 neroli, 4 rosewood
Method: store diluted in 1 tbsp of almond or sunflower oil and massage 1 tsp into neck, face, hands and chest every night; 2 drops neat on a tissue beside the bed; 3 drops on cotton wool on the radiator or in an oil burner.
Never use essential oils neat on the skin, always dilute with a base oil such as sunflower or almond (up to 30 drops per 30-50ml base oil). Smell it first – if it repulses you don’t use it. Test on a small patch of skin first time. See here for more safety tips: aromaweb.
If you adjust a recipe also adjust the number of drops accordingly. A rule of thumb is to use no more drops of essential oil than the number of ml of base oil (30 ml base oil, up to 30 drops essential oil).
